Tackling those hard questions on carrying to term |
Many times when carrying to term, we are asked very odd and off the wall questions. Often the person asking is not trying to offend or make you feel uncomfortable; they just want to understand your situation as best as possible. So when replying to those questions whether they seem rude or very odd, keep in mind that carrying to term and even fatal fetal conditions are not something that is on the local news daily.
Here are a few of the most common questions that are asked and examples of how to answer them. Every case is different and you will need to plug in basic info and facts for your particular situation, so this is just a general FAQ to help you prepare and can help family, friends, co-workers, and strangers better understand your unique situation.
I see you’re pregnant, what are you having and when are you due? (This question will come from random strangers at random times) Reply boy/girl, your due date and carry on with whatever you were doing. You are still pregnant and deserve to be treated like a normal pregnant woman, don’t hide from going out in public, you could be carrying a medical miracle in your belly.
Why are they making you carry to term? I was given the choice to terminate or carry to term; I chose to carry on because (then briefly explain your reason). You can also reply that they are not making me carry to term, or you can say I will not end my child’s life; nature will take its course, I am praying for the best, but prepared for the worst
Do you think carrying to term is the right thing for you to be doing? Yes I do, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it. Carrying to term is hard but I am giving my child a chance to defy odds and if nothing else an opportunity to experience complete love inside and out of the womb.
Is your baby in pain? As I’ve been told, my child is not in any pain.
I see your belly continues to get bigger, is your baby growing in there? Yes, despite the condition he or she is still growing. This answer is exempt for those who suffer from IUGR and placental problems, restricting the baby to grow or if the baby has passed in utero)
How do you wake up in the morning? Just as you do, by the grace of God
Why can’t they just take the baby early so you don’t have to suffer? Because I chose to carry to term, taking the baby early would be considered a therapeutic termination, and what makes you think I’m suffering??
Why are you carrying to term, knowing your baby is going to die? Every woman will answer this different see Why I Carried To Term
What did you do to make your baby have that condition? My spouse and I have done nothing wrong
Were you taking prenatal vitamins? Yes, I was, again this condition is not my fault
Is your life at risk? My Dr. doesn’t believe so; however child bearing and child birth is risky to any woman.
